Forecast details…

Rest of Sunday through Monday morning… A trough will dip into UT from the northwest and then move quickly through CO from the west. It’s not a favorable snow maker for us.

The good news is that temps will be chilly, and the snow level will be less than 7,000ft. In the mountains temps will be in the teens leading to 20:1 ratio powder that accumulates quickly.

Timing… In the Pagosa Springs area steady, mostly light snow with short bursts of moderate snow will fall until around midnight and then hit and miss snow showers will persist into early Monday morning. In the mountains moderate snow will fall into early Monday morning and then scattered showers are possible until around sunrise Monday.

Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning… A transient ridge and dry flow out of the northwest will give us dry weather and partly cloudy skies. Temps will be 5-10 degrees below average.

Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning… Another fast-moving trough will move through the area from the northwest.

Snow amounts…

Mountains: 4-8”

Pagosa area: a dusting to 2”

Thursday afternoon through next weekend… A Rex block will set up off the southern West Coast and keep the dreaded, dry flow out of the northwest over us. Temps will slowly warm towards average.

Temps…

Sunday through Saturday highs will be in the mid-30s to low 40s and lows will be near 10 to the low 20s.

Next Sunday highs will be in the high 30s to mid-40s and lows will be in the low to high teens.

I’ve been a “weather geek” since I was young child. I joined the military out of high school and was lucky to get my dream job in weather. I have 20 years of military weather experience which includes forecasting the weather all over the world. Highlights were six years in Alaska and making life and death weather decisions during deployments. I love mountains, I love snow, and I love summertime thunderstorms. I spend a bunch of time playing outdoors and found my paradise in Pagosa Springs. I do Pagosa Weather as a community service. Hopefully you find us helpful!
