Every Sunday morning, no matter the weather, Shawn and I walk dogs at the Humane Society.
One of our favorites for the past 11 months has been Mater. And now Mater is a movie star!
A Durango production company donated their time and talent recently to make a short film for the benefit of the Pagosa Springs Humane Society. It tells the story of Mater, waiting patiently for someone to notice him and take him home. He occupies his time chewing on his favorite toys, and going for walks with the wonderful staff and generous volunteers. During his time he makes friends with a cat also waiting to be adopted. The story wraps up with a kind woman who takes them both home.
Shawn and I have small roles in the film as well.

It is a very touching film but, sadly, it is fiction. Mater is still at the Humane Society waiting for someone to take him to his forever home…
Lovable, Goofy Mater
Mater was brought to the shelter 11 months ago. Someone found him out on Highway 160 in September of last year. They stopped, opened their door, and he jumped right in!
Shawn and I have had many favorite pups at the Humane Society. Mater is one of the top ones! He is always in a good mood and sashays out to greet everyone warmly. He doesn’t know a stranger. He is indifferent to other dogs. It’s not that he doesn’t like them. He just prefers humans and his toys that he carries everywhere with him. Shawn and I refer to him as a no-issue dog.
Mater is a boxer/bull dog mix and an estimated seven years old. Middle age dogs can be so hard to find homes for. But consider that Mater is very healthy and has years left to share with someone.
Mater is looking for a companion to go on morning walks with and then maybe a game or two of fetch throughout the day. Otherwise, he is very content to curl up with a rugged toy and while away the day.
Can you give Mater his happy ending? Are you looking for a low maintenance companion or do you know someone who is? Visit Mater at the Pagosa Springs Humane Society or give them a call.
