Pagosa Springs 4th of July Parade

The highlight of 4th of July Festivities in Pagosa Springs! Join us on Thursday, July 4, at 10:00 AM in downtown Pagosa.

The parade route has changed. It will not be on Main Street this year. See the route below. The parade starts at Spring St and Hot Springs Blvd. The parade heads south on Hot Springs Blvd. It continues west on Apache St and then south on 5th St.  Be there early to find a parking spot.

Look for Shawn and Arleen, the Pagosa Weather team and their Pagosa Weather friends! They’ll be in a grey/green colored Tacoma. Just shout out to Arleen or Shawn to get a Pagosa Weather stress relieving “snowflake”. The Pagosa Weather friends will also be handing out Pagosa Weather candy.

2024 Parade

Pagosa Springs Photography Club

The Pagosa Springs Photography Club will meet Wednesday, July 10th. There is a social from 6:00pm to 6:30pm. Arleen and Shawn from Pagosa Weather will have a presentation at 6:30pm. The meeting is at the Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis St, in the Fellowship room which is on the right side of the church if facing it from the street.

Arleen will be talking about sunrise, sunset, moon rise, and moon set, as well as cloud identification and formation. Finally, she will give a quick overview of the monsoon. This will be a different and fun presentation.

The meeting is open to the public.

Durango Radar UPDATE

We received an update from the LaPlata Public & Governmental Affairs Manager on the Durango Doppler radar at the LaPlata County Airport.

Assembly of the radar is on schedule to begin the week of July 15th with the anticipation of the project being completed in August. We’ll have pictures in the next newsletter!

The community will have access to the data via the app and a widget on the La Plata County website. Beyond that, direct access to the data requires paid logins and there may be opportunities in the future to explore providing access to entities outside of the County and NOAA. They’ll have more details on access once the tower is up and looking around.

Our hope is that the data is at least integrated with the other NOAA radar sites on NWS’s radar page, MRMS. As soon as we have definitive information, we will update you.

Site 6 Coverage Map
The Volume Coverage Pattern for the .5 degree radar beam. Green and blue are excellent coverage. Yellows are decent coverage. Reds are poor coverage.

Festival of Trees

The Pagosa Weather Team is seeking creative volunteers to help us decorate a tree for the Festival of Trees. Contact Arleen @ for more information.

If any teachers or organizations would like us to visit for a presentation, send an email to Arleen at

CoCoRaHS Newsletter Updates

Robyn Schulze is a new CoCoRaHS observer! She’ll be reporting from east of Chromo in an area that gets very impressive snow accumulations. We’re looking forward to her reports!

Pagosa Weather is the Archuleta County “CoCoRaHS Coordinator” and “Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador”.

Weather Data Lovers, CoCoRaHS has released CoCoRaHS Data Explorer, or “DEx” for short.  This tool provides countless new ways to visualize and analyze data.  Note: it is highly recommended to use larger screens when viewing the DEx.
Click here to go to the DEx Station Search page for data access to any station in the database. (open to the public)

HELP! Do you or do you have a friend that lives in one of the five areas highlighted below?

Archuleta County is well represented but we still have BIG data gaps. We really need a volunteer in Arboles, Dulce, west on Highway 160, Pagosa Junction, and the upper Blanco. Sign up by filling out this web page: Or send us a note and we can send you more detailed information.

Perhaps, our August Newsletter will show fewer red circles!

CoCoRaHS Map

The red circles are areas we could use a CoCoRaHS observer. Let us know if you can give us 5 to 10 minutes every morning to measure precip and snow. CoCoRaHS provides all the training you need.

Shawn’s June 2024 summary will be out in the next few days. He’s waiting on more DATA!

I grew up in Montana where my love of the mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force, forecasting aviation weather, for 24 years. I had eight assignments and my favorites were Colorado, Alaska, Korea, and Germany. I deployed a number of times including to Iraq and Afghanistan. After RV traveling for nine years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy playing outside in the spectacular San Juan mountains!
