Part of the Lifelong Learning Program at the Ruby Sisson Library.

Join Arleen and Shawn Prochazka as they talk about Monsoon Season in the southern San Juan Mountains. Arleen will explain exactly how and when the monsoon sets up in our area. In addition, she will go over the evidence that indicates whether we are going to have a weak, average, or a strong monsoon season. Last year we only had 3.23″ of precipitation for the monsoon season months of July, August, and September. That was well below the average of 6.25″ and the second driest in 11 years.

They’ll also go over some lightning safety and share the latest news on the southwest Doppler radar.

As always, we’ll have time to answer any of your weather questions. See you on Thursday!

I grew up in Montana where my love of the mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force, forecasting aviation weather, for 24 years. I had eight assignments and my favorites were Colorado, Alaska, Korea, and Germany. I deployed a number of times including to Iraq and Afghanistan. After RV traveling for nine years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy playing outside in the spectacular San Juan mountains!
