Snowpack update…

Snowpack is at 88% of average for the state – a considerable increase in the last two weeks!

The weather has been active since we started the new year. Here’s a quick snowpack update.

Wolf Creek has reported 72″ so far in January. Their average for January is 76.1″.

Snowpack for our nearby basins has gone from 62% to 86%. The upper San Juan snotel site has gone from 55% to 85%. The Wolf Creek Summit snotel site has gone from 53% to 72%. The weather will be quiet this week, but next week looks more promising. With some luck, Pagosa Country could finish January with above average snowfall!

I’ve been a “weather geek” since I was young child. I joined the military out of high school and was lucky to get my dream job in weather. I have 20 years of military weather experience which includes forecasting the weather all over the world. Highlights were six years in Alaska and making life and death weather decisions during deployments. I love mountains, I love snow, and I love summertime thunderstorms. Excellent presentation last night at ski and bow! We can now understand a bit more why we have the weather we have. Keep up the great work!
