Low is yet to move through with more snow!

The heaviest snow has moved through and we are waiting for the area of low pressure to the west to move through. It will bring more snow showers with it. A few could be heavy.

Unfortunately, a lot of areas to the south had more rain than snow. Martha in Arboles reported 1/2″ of rain but no snow. Other areas in town changed to snow last night and reported 5-9″ of snow. North on Piedra in O’Neal Park past Turkey Springs, Brian reported 12″ at 9am! They now have a snow depth measurement of 20″ in that area.

Wolf Creek was closed first this morning for avalanche mitigation but it opened around 0830L. They reported 16″ of new snow.

2 Jan 22 Precip
CocoRaHS Observers 1/4″ to 1.4″ precipital water. Lisa was the lottery winner on East 160.
2 Jan 22 Snowfall
CoCoRaHS snow observations this morning varied from 0 to 11.2″. Arleen (yea, me!) was the snow lottery winner in O’Neal Park at 8,000 feet.

Shawn will have a detailed forecast post late this afternoon/early evening.

Tommy after 12
Tommy had a great time in all the fresh snow!

I grew up in Montana where my love of mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force for 24 years; Weather Observer to Weather Forecaster to Staff Weather Officer all to ensure flight safety. Mission was to brief aircrews on clouds, winds, turbulence, icing, thunderstorms. I served a total of 8 assignments and 4 deployments around the world. After RV traveling full time for 9 years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing in spectacular mountains! Plus, we're trying to solve the San Juan weather puzzle! I am an AMS member.
