Forecast highlights…

*** Pesky weather pattern with a slight chance for an afternoon shower each day through Saturday. ***

*** Remnants of hurricane Rachel look more likely to give us a soaking Sunday into next Wednesday. ***

*** Temps below freezing are possible each morning starting next Thursday (15 Oct). ***

Rest of Tuesday through Saturday… The high will remain over the region but it is weakening and slowly shifting east. A mid-level low will slowly move through the Four Corners and cause a slight increase in instability.

A few weak showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon, mostly over the mountains.

Sunday through next Wednesday… Another wet pattern is taking shape. A deepening low pressure system will move south along the coast and then turn east through southern CA. It is expected to move through the Four Corners area on Wednesday. Remnants of hurricane Rachel could pump moisture into the system and give us a good soaking.

Right now it looks like the heaviest precip is possible late Sunday afternoon into Monday afternoon and then again Wednesday morning into Wednesday evening.

SNOW levels will be around 12,500ft Sunday through Monday evening and then drop to around 11,000ft early Tuesday morning. Our mountains above 12,500ft could get 4-8” of snow. 11,000ft to 12,500ft 1-3” of snow is possible. A few wet snowflakes are possible on Wolf Creek Pass. The road should remain wet while a dusting of snow is possible along the road.

*** There is still a lot of uncertainty. I’ll continue to adjust the details as the data gets better. ***

It’s mostly dry through most of Saturday. Late Saturday there’s a chance for scattered showers. Precip ramps up Sunday into Wednesday night. Then there is a lot of uncertainty, but it looks mostly dry.

I’ve been a “weather geek” since I was young child. I joined the military out of high school and was lucky to get my dream job in weather. I have 20 years of military weather experience which includes forecasting the weather all over the world. Highlights were six years in Alaska and making life and death weather decisions during deployments. I love mountains, I love snow, and I love summertime thunderstorms. I spend a bunch of time playing outdoors and found my paradise in Pagosa Springs. I do Pagosa Weather as a community service. Hopefully you find us helpful!
