Forecast discussion…

SAT 10 Apr 25

Water vapor satellite Thursday afternoon – The ridge, jagged blue line, will be in control till Saturday.  Even then it keeps the trough to our north.

There is nothing on radar in our area.

Forecast highlights…

*** Lots of sun! Temps 10-15 degrees above average till Saturday. ***

*** Slight chance of some precip next week. ***

*** Gusty on Sunday!***

Rest of Thursday through Saturday… Sunny, Partly Cloudy and warm and breezy. The ridge will be in control over us and our weather through Saturday.

Friday & Saturday Temps: Lows lo to mid 30s.  Highs mid 60s to mid 70s.  It will feel like summer!

Winds Gust to 15mph on Friday.  Gust to 30mph on Saturday as the trough pushes into area.

Sunday and Monday: On Sunday a trough will push into northern Colorado.  We’ll be mostly cloudy with high clouds and gusty winds as the ridge shields us.  Monday will be a bit cooler.

Lows: mid 30s on Sunday morning.  Hi 20s to Low 30s on Monday morning.  Highs will be mid 60s to near 70.

Winds… Spring winds!  Sunday is going to be the windiest day of the week with winds gusting up to 35mph.  Wolf Creek and the divide will see gusts to 45mph.   Monday winds will settle.. just a bit with gusts to 25mph.

Tuesday and Wednesday: The first of two cutoff lows will move into our area from the southwest.  We’ll see increasing clouds at all levels.  On Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon we’ll see widely scattered rainshowers in the valley areas.  There is a possibility of our first thunderstorm though it will probably be over the mountains.  The mountains have the potential to see a trace to a few inches of snow over the two afternoons.

Lows: Hi 20s to Low 30s.  Highs: Upper 60s.

Winds: Gust to 25mph both days associated with the showers in the afternoon.

Precip 15 16 Apr 25

Good representation of where the showers will be on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. In town could see just .08″ with higher amounts to the east and to the north. With showery activity and a stray thunderstorm, it could be more or less.

The 8-14 day period… A second cutoff low will move into the area late next week and into the weekend.  Details are still murky.  It looks better then the first one.

I grew up in Montana where my love of the mountains is rooted. I served in the Air Force, forecasting aviation weather, for 24 years. I had eight assignments and my favorites were Colorado, Alaska, Korea, and Germany. I deployed several times, including to Iraq and Afghanistan. After RV traveling for nine years, Shawn and I found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy playing outside in the spectacular San Juan mountains!
