Rest of Tuesday into next Sunday afternoon… The first of three systems will move through Tuesday evening.  An isolated thunderstorm or two is possible until sunset Tuesday. Clouds will clear overnight leading to a chilly morning.

The low currently over northern CA will sink southeast into the northern AZ area and then wobble around for a few days. It will spin off a couple of weak troughs that will push bands of showers through the region.

Below are the best chances for precip.  Spotty showers are possible between these periods and into Sunday afternoon, mostly over the mountains.

– Wednesday evening into Thursday evening

– Friday afternoon into Saturday evening

Snow levels will bounce between 6,000ft each night to 7,200ft each afternoon.

We won’t need our snowblowers and snow shovels. Temps will be in the mid-30s to low 40s each afternoon so snow will struggle to accumulate.  Any snow that falls during the night will melt in the afternoons.

Additional snow Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning…

Mountains above 9,000ft: 1-2”

Pagosa area: up to a half inch in the Chromo and Chama areas

Snow amounts Wednesday morning to sunrise Friday… Most of this will fall Wednesday evening into Thursday evening.

Mountains: 3-6”

Pagosa area: up to 2”

Snow amounts Friday morning to Sunday afternoon… Most of this will fall Friday afternoon into Saturday evening.

Mountains: 4-8”

Pagosa area: up to 2”

Temps… Tuesday night lows will be in the high single digits to high teens.  Wednesday and Thursday highs will be in the mid-30s to low 40s and lows will be in the mid-teens to mid-20s. Friday and Saturday highs will be in the high 30s to mid-40s and lows will be near 20 to near 30.  Sunday highs will be in the mid-40s to low 50s and lows will be in the mid-teens to mid-20s.

Winds… Tuesday after sunset winds will gradually drop below 10mph. For the rest of this period, each afternoon winds will gust 15-20mph.

NBM snow to Friday morning shows 2” near Pagosa and 4-6” in the Wolf Creek area. Due to warm temps just the lucky spots near Pagosa will get 2” but this looks good for the mountains.

Euro model snow from Friday to Sunday afternoon shows 4.7” near Pagosa and 5-8” near Wolf Creek. This is too much for Pagosa due to warm temps but looks reasonable for Wolf Creek. A couple of notes about this system… Most of this precip is expected between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening and then there will be hit and miss showers, mostly over the mountains. Upper-level flow could turn more southeasterly which would result in lower precip totals for us.  South Fork could do well. *** Travel along the I-25 corridor could be rough Friday night into Saturday afternoon. ***

I’ve been a “weather geek” since I was young child. I joined the military out of high school and was lucky to get my dream job in weather. I have 20 years of military weather experience which includes forecasting the weather all over the world. Highlights were six years in Alaska and making life and death weather decisions during deployments. I love mountains, I love snow, and I love summertime thunderstorms. I spend a bunch of time playing outdoors and found my paradise in Pagosa Springs. I do Pagosa Weather as a community service. Hopefully you find us helpful!
