Community Outreach! February was a very busy month! It was so good to see and meet so many of you out in the community!
An Evening with Pagosa Weather & Ski Patrol
Our Blizzard Sponsor, Ski & Bow Rack, hosted an evening with Pagosa Weather on February 13th, the night before our Valentines Day storm hit. Arleen talked about what it takes for snow to happen here and what has been keeping the snow out of our area. Then Shawn was able to show everyone live images of satellite, radar, and current model products for the snowstorm that was moving in. We both talked about what the rest of the winter is looking like and how it compares to recent bad winters.
The talk was a lot of fun and we really appreciated the 50+ folks who came out to after-hours Ski & Bow Rack.
Huge thanks to Brittany & Robert, Catherine, and the rest of the team at Ski & Bow Rack for hosting the event and for being our Blizzard level sponsor!
Huge thanks to all our followers for snow updates and posting pictures during our Valentine’s Day storm! Also, Huge THANKS to The Springs Resort for sponsoring the Valentines Day storm.

David came to our talk & took home a yardstick to measure 9″ of snow the next day. He was visiting his parents and had his first-ever experience to shoveling SNOW!

Lutheran Kindergarten Class
This was the third year that we have visited Susan Beaird’s kindergarten class. We always have such fun with these little scientists. We are amazed at their questions and their stories.
We did pressure, cloud, wind, and static electricity experiments. As always, learning about winds with bubbles was very popular!

Chamber of Commerce Gala! 2025 Annual Chamber Community Awards!
Pagosa Weather is proud to be a trade member of the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce. We support them in providing weather forecasts and promoting community events including Winterfest, The Car Show, 4th of July, and Colorfest events.
Arleen and her friend Jenny attended the Pagosa Springs Chamber Annual Community Awards Gala that recognizes Volunteer of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, Small Business of the Year, and Citizen of the Year.
This year we also celebrated Mary Jo Coulehan’s final gala as the Chamber’s director. Pagosa Weather is very thankful to her support and guidance over the years.

Visit to Sherpa Realty
Jim Smith Realty merged with Sherpa Realty in November of 2024. Jim Smith, after 37 years of service in Pagosa Springs, is finally retiring. Though on some days, such as the day we visited, he can still be found in the downtown office.
Pagosa Weather often uses what is now the Sherpa Realty webcam. The webcam is a great way to monitor the weather. Arleen and Shawn visited the Sherpa Realty downtown office recently to discuss the webcam views. We met with West Davies and Jim Smith. We really appreciate the time they spent with us and their willingness to make changes to help improve our weather monitoring.
We may work with West and Sherpa Realty on another webcam project in the future. Stay tuned for all the details on that!

CoCoRaHS Newsletter Updates
Pagosa Weather is the Archuleta County “CoCoRaHS Coordinator” and “Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador”.
Weather Data Lovers, CoCoRaHS has released CoCoRaHS Data Explorer, or “DEx” for short. This tool provides countless new ways to visualize and analyze data. Note: it is highly recommended to use larger screens when viewing the DEx.
Click here to go to the DEx Station Search page for data access to any station in the database. (open to the public)
HELP! Do you or do you have a friend that lives in one of the four areas highlighted below?
Archuleta County is well represented but we still have BIG data gaps. We really need a volunteer in Arboles, Dulce, west on Highway 160, and Pagosa Junction. Sign up by filling out this web page: https://www.cocorahs.org/application.aspx. Or send us a note and we can send you more detailed information.
Perhaps, our April Newsletter will show fewer red circles!

The red circles are areas we could use a CoCoRaHS observer. Let us know if you can give us 5 to 10 minutes every morning to measure precip and snow. CoCoRaHS provides all the training you need.
Pagosa Weather January SUMMARY & February Outlook
Shawn’s February Summary with my March Outlook will be out in the next few days.
