Lots of sun, dry, and pleasant temps…

Festus is my favorite pup at the Humane Society! He’s a lovable, goofy Australian Cattle Dog mix that likes car rides and adventures and gives great hugs. He’s available for adoption at the Human Society of Pagosa Springs.

Forecast highlights…

*** Lots of sun and dry for a while – boooo hissss ***

Sunday night through Saturday… A Rex block will prevent systems from moving through our area. Dry flow out of the northwest will give us a lot of sun and dry weather. Temps will be 5-10 degrees above average next week.

Temps… Sunday night lows will be in the mid-teens to mid-20s. Monday through Saturday highs will be in the high 40s to mid-50s and lows will be in the high teens to mid-20s.

The 8-14 day period… The blocking pattern will begin breaking down around 9/10 Dec and then a couple of weak systems could move through from the northwest. The first system will drop just a few snowflakes over the mountains.  The next system around the 15th looks a little more promising.

Euro ensemble snowfall to 6am on 16 Dec on the top shows 2-4” in the Pagosa area. GFS ensemble snowfall on the bottom shows 2-3” in the Pagosa area. I added the yellow arrows to show the general storm track.  Northwest isn’t favorable for us.

I’ve been a “weather geek” since I was young child. I joined the military out of high school and was lucky to get my dream job in weather. I have 20 years of military weather experience which includes forecasting the weather all over the world. Highlights were six years in Alaska and making life and death weather decisions during deployments. I love mountains, I love snow, and I love summertime thunderstorms. I spend a bunch of time playing outdoors and found my paradise in Pagosa Springs. I do Pagosa Weather as a community service. Hopefully you find us helpful!
