Forecast highlights…

*** Dry with above average temps through 24 Dec. ***

*** Potential for a few snowflakes on Christmas Day ***

Rest of Monday through 24 Dec… Ridging will push systems to our north. We’ll see lots of sun with occasional patches of high clouds, and temps above average.

Winds… Afternoon peaks will be around 10mph.

Temps… Tuesday and Wednesday highs will range from the mid-40s to low 50s and lows will be in the low teens to low 20s. Thursday through 24 Dec highs will be in the high 40s to mid-50s and lows will be in the mid-teens to mid-20s.

Christmas Day and beyond… The forecast models continue to show a weak low-pressure system moving through Christmas evening/night. Though it’s too early to focus on details, I see potential for an inch of snow in the Pagosa area and 2-4” up at Wolf Creek.

NBM snow to 26 Dec at 5pm shows around 1” near Pagosa and 2-4” in our mountains.  It’s too early to trust these amounts, but I’m happy to be tracking a potential Christmas Day storm.

More good news… It looks like the weather pattern could stay active through the last week of the year.

My next post will be on Wednesday.

I’ve been a “weather geek” since I was young child. I joined the military out of high school and was lucky to get my dream job in weather. I have 20 years of military weather experience which includes forecasting the weather all over the world. Highlights were six years in Alaska and making life and death weather decisions during deployments. I love mountains, I love snow, and I love summertime thunderstorms. I spend a bunch of time playing outdoors and found my paradise in Pagosa Springs. I do Pagosa Weather as a community service. Hopefully you find us helpful!
