San Juan Water Conservancy District “The Value of Snow” Film!

Video Launch party of “This Is Your Watershed: Upper San Juan River” will be November 18th, 2024, at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts!

The recent mountain snow and opening of Wolf Creek Ski Area certainly has us thinking about snow. The majority of us live here because we love snow and relish playing in it.

The San Juan Water Conservancy District (SJWD), however, looks at snow differently. The SJWCD, with a grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, has released the first of three short educational films regarding watershed and the future for water supply in Archuleta County.

“The Value of Snow” features the Arleen and Shawn Prochazka of the Pagosa Weather Team and Dr Jake Kurzwell, Hydrologist, Mountain Studies Institute.

I grew up in Montana where my love of the mountains is rooted. I served in the Air Force, forecasting aviation weather, for 24 years. I had eight assignments and my favorites were Colorado, Alaska, Korea, and Germany. I deployed several times, including to Iraq and Afghanistan. After RV traveling for nine years, Shawn and I found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy playing outside in the spectacular San Juan mountains!
