San Juan Outdoor Club Winter Update/Outlook

Thursday, December 14th, 6:00pm for Social, 6:30pm for meeting, Speaker 6:45pm-7:30pm

Arleen Prochazka will give a presentation at this month’s San Juan Outdoor Club meeting.

Arleen will review what happened the last few winters, what has happened so far this winter (and what has NOT happened). She will review the best snow synoptic patterns for the Southern San Juan mountains area as well as global oscillation patterns that impact our area.

“Will the return of the El Niño mean an increase in snow for the Pagosa area? We’ve started out this winter with a below average snowpack, but will our snow dances pay off? Come listen to Arleen’s forecast and learn just enough about the Madden-Julian Oscillation to amaze your friends at your upcoming holiday parties!”

Shawn will be there to answer all your questions!

Note: The meeting is OPEN to the PUBLIC. It’s a great opportunity to learn about to learn about our active and fun San Juan Outdoor Club!

Social is 6:00 – 6:30pm, Meeting is from 6:30 – 6:45, Speaker from 6:45 to 7:30pm. PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Avenue.

I grew up in Montana where my love of the mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force, forecasting aviation weather, for 24 years. I had eight assignments and my favorites were Colorado, Alaska, Korea, and Germany. I deployed a number of times including to Iraq and Afghanistan. After RV traveling for nine years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy playing outside in the spectacular San Juan mountains!
