We have a Winner for First Inch of Snow for ’23!

Michelle Juneau is the winner of a $50 gift certificate to Terry’s Ace Hardware!

We recorded 1 inch of snow at 10am this morning 7 miles northwest of Pagosa Springs. Other areas are even getting more snow! Julene in San Juan River Village reported 2.5″ of snow at 10am. And the snow is coming down heavy now!

We have 3″ at our location 7 miles northwest of Pagosa now at noon!

Huge thanks to Grace & her team at Terry’s Ace for sponsoring this contest.

We’ll start a new weather contest on Sunday for the amount of snow Wolf Creek Ski resort will record for the ’23/’24 season sponsored by Ski and Bow rack.

August 21st: This contest is closed to any new guesses. Good luck to everyone & huge thanks to Grace & her team at Terry’s Ace for sponsoring this contest.

Win a $50 Gift Certificate to Terry’s Ace Hardware!

The contest and prize… Forecast the first 1” inch of snow that falls and sticks to the ground. The person with the closest guess will win a $50 gift certificate to Terry’s Ace Hardware!

Terry’s Ace, a modern day general store, is a member of the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the industry. Pagosa Spring’s Ace Hardware was opened in 2005 by Terrence Smith. It is now independently owned by Grace, Max and Quinn Smith. When Ace talks about the “Most Helpful Hardware” store, Terry’s is a shining example. They are committed to helping their customers fulfill their needs.

The Rules

– Each person can make ONE guess in the comments of this post or on the Facebook Post

– The guess must include the date and time. Example: September 1, 0800L.

– Multiple same guesses will go to the first person with that guess.

– Winner must arrange to pick up prize from the merchant themselves.

– No more guesses after Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at 11:59pm.

– The Pagosa Weather team is excluded – sorry Mark!

The Pagosa Weather Team will determine and verify the 1st inch of snow.  The two verification snowboards are northwest of Pagosa, one 6 miles northwest and the other 7 miles northwest. A winner will be declared when one of those two snowboards has an inch of snow.

Let’s have fun and support our local businesses! Good Luck!

I grew up in Montana where my love of the mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force, forecasting aviation weather, for 24 years. I had eight assignments and my favorites were Colorado, Alaska, Korea, and Germany. I deployed a number of times including to Iraq and Afghanistan. After RV traveling for nine years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy playing outside in the spectacular San Juan mountains!
