Personal Donations Newsletter Updates

Special waves of thanks to our wonderful donors in September: Jean Eilek and Lana & Toby Summers! Thank you!!!

We sold 35 hats at the Mountain Chili Cha Cha! A portion of each of those purchases goes towards covering our costs. More importantly, each of those folks are helping promote Pagosa Weather and the free services we offer when they wear their Pagosa Weather hat.

What your generous donation goes towards

Your donations help us take care of the costs of the website manager, Fluid Elements, the website, weather subscriptions, and other business expenses.  Most importantly your donations ensure that we will be able to provide this free service for everyone for years to come.  Remember, each donor will receive a Pagosa Weather Snow Depth Measurer (yardstick).

Follow this link to make a donations: How to Donate: You can donate by PayPal, credit card through Square, or by check. Thank you so much for your generosity!

You can pick up your Pagosa Weather Snow Depth Measurer (yardstick) at San Juan Mercantile.

San Juan Mercantile is a fun store with Antiques, Collectibles, Jewelry, Knives, Candles, Housewares, Fine Linens, Local Honey, Souvenirs, and Locally made items.  It is at 524 San Juan Street, next to the Barber Shop, across the street from Plaza Liquor.  Thank you to Cindy and her team for being our store front!

Mark, Shawn and I have been truly touched by the support our followers have shown for us!

Community Outreach

Pagosa Springs ColorFest

It was an amazing weekend that started with the Passport to Pagosa Wine and Food Festival Friday night. Then Saturday morning, the Aspen House and Aspen Services organized the very popular 5K Color Run/Walk that started in fog this year but finished under blue skies.

Early each morning Pagosa Weather’s Shawn and Arleen joined Austin Marchland of Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures to brief the balloon pilots on the morning’s weather. Winds are so critical to a successful mass ascension. Then, the skies filled with color as 32 balloons rose up! They were downtown on Saturday morning and then uptown on Sunday morning. In addition, there was balloon glow Friday and Saturday night!

Mountain Chili Cha Cha

The 17th Annual Mountain Chile Cha Cha was Saturday, September 23rd, at the Town Park. The highlight is the Patty Aragon Green Chile Classic cook-off. In addition, there were early morning trail runs, a margarita contest, a beer garden, a kid’s corner, and a number of food trucks.

The Pagosa Weather Team also had a booth. It was so wonderful to meet so many of our followers and answer a lot of great questions. We also met a lot of folks who were not familiar with Pagosa Weather and were excited to hear about our free service! We sold 35 of our Pagosa Weather hats. We still have a few left and will have them for sale at our winter weather talks this fall.

Our favorite weather fan, Elijah, visited us as well. Elijah is a Pagosa Springs entrepreneur – the creator of Penguin Pups – tasty and healthy dog treats “everything you need to keep their tales wagging”. And this creative and generous young man donates earnings to get nutritious food to children in need! He’s such an inspiration!

CoCoRaHS Newsletter Updates

Pagosa Weather is the Archuleta County “CoCoRaHS Coordinator” and “Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador”.

Do you or do you have a friend that lives in one of the five areas highlighted below?

Archuleta County is well represented but we still have big data gaps. We really need a volunteer in Arboles, Dulce, west on Highway 160, Pagosa Junction, and the upper Blanco. Sign up by filling out this web page: https://www.cocorahs.org/application.aspx. Or send us a note and we can send you more detailed information.

Perhaps, our November Newsletter will show fewer red circles!

CoCoRaHS Map

The red circles are areas we could use a CoCoRaHS observer. Let us know if you can give us 5 to 10 minutes every morning to measure precip and snow. CoCoRaHS provides all the training you need.

Past Contest – 2023 Monsoon Rainfall

Forecast the amount of rain that Pagosa Springs will receive during the three months of monsoon season from July through September. Sadly, we only had 2.68″ this monsoon season.

Cena Chivers Brossard had the closest guess and won a Relaxing Day of VIP Soaking for 4, a prize package experience worth $620 from The Springs Resort, our Storm Sponsor! Congrats to Cena!

The Pagosa Weather Team would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jesse, T, and the entire team at The Springs Resort for their support of Pagosa Weather!

A BIG thanks to the Springs Resort for sponsoring this soaking!

Active Contest – First Inch of Snow winter 2023/2024

Forecast the first 1” inch of snow that falls and sticks to the ground. The person with the closest guess will win a $50 gift certificate to Terry’s Ace Hardware, one of our Snowman sponsors. Note: This contest is closed to any new guesses.

The Pagosa Weather Team will determine and verify the 1st inch of snow.  The two verification snowboards are northwest of Pagosa, one 6 miles northwest and the other 7 miles northwest. A winner will be declared when one of those two snowboards has an inch of snow.

Huge thanks to Grace and the rest of her team for their support and for sponsoring this contest.

Good Luck to everyone!

I grew up in Montana where my love of mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force for 24 years; Weather Observer to Weather Forecaster to Staff Weather Officer all to ensure flight safety. Mission was to brief aircrews on clouds, winds, turbulence, icing, thunderstorms. I served a total of 8 assignments and 4 deployments around the world. After RV traveling full time for 9 years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing in spectacular mountains! Plus, we're trying to solve the San Juan weather puzzle! I am an AMS member.
