Sadly, the monsoon season is over. It was the second driest monsoon in the last 11 years. In 2018 we had 2.56″ and this year we had 2.68 precip total for July, August, and September. Let’s hope our El Nino winter turns around our deteriorating drought condition. I’ll have the winter outlook post out this evening.

The contest… Forecast the amount of measured rain that Pagosa Springs will receive during the three months of monsoon season from July through September to the nearest 100th of an inch.
As a starting point, you might want to attend our presentation on Thursday at the library. NOAA will release the 2023 Hurricane season forecast on Thursday, too! It is a key piece of evidence for the seasonal forecast. All we know at this point is the first named storm is Arleen. I’ll have the post on our monsoon season out next week.

Verification
The Pagosa Weather Team will determine the amount of the total precipitation amount using an average from a number of CoCoRaHS observation sites in the Pagosa Springs area over the months of July, August, and September, 2023.
