Pagosa Triathlon!
Shawn and Arleen provided weather support for the Pagosa Triathlon. It is a fun new event that will happen here in Pagosa every spring around the last week in March. It is a competition like no other in the nation. About 30 teams came from around the nation to Pagosa Springs to participate in a hot air ballooning competition, a skiing competition, and a rafting competition.
Unfortunately, they had snowshowers for the Friday night balloon glow and windy conditions for competition morning. And it was just too cold for the rafting competition. So they substituted a fun town scavenger hunt and fun at Stitches & Dimples. The balloons were able to get up Friday and Sunday morning and some teams had fun up at Wolf Creek. Hopefully, next year, the temperatures will be normal and the winds will behave themselves. Shawn and Arleen will be there to provide weather support for the whole event again.

Home Schooled Students Gathering
The Pagosa Weather Team was invited to teach a weather class for the area home schooled students. We all gathered at the Grace Church and had a great time with the junior scientists! The students varied in age so it was a challenge to keep the older ones engaged and still make sure the younger ones understood what was going on. We received such positive feedback that the families really appreciated it and we did a good job of keeping it active and fun. We did air pressure demonstrations, made a cloud in a jar, discussed wind with bubbles, static electricity related to lightning, and the albedo effect on snow. And of course we talked about clouds and the weather associated them.

Rotary Club
Arleen and Shawn were invited to speak at the local Rotary Club meeting. This time they shared stories of their years as aviation weather forecasters in the Air Force as well as their RV traveling story and their discovery of Pagosa Springs. They enjoyed having lunch with so many of the area civic leaders.

CoCoRaHS
Pagosa Weather is the Archuleta County “CoCoRaHS Coordinator” and “Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador”.
Archuleta County is well represented but we still have big data gaps. We really need a volunteer in Arboles, Dulce, west on Highway 160, Pagosa Junction, and the upper Blanco. Sign up by filling out this web page: https://www.cocorahs.org/application.aspx. Or send us a note and we can send you more detailed information.

The red circles are areas we could use a CoCoRaHS observer. Let us know if you can give us 5 to 10 minutes every morning to measure precip and snow. CoCoRaHS provides all the training you need.
