Weather Ready Nation Ambassador of Excellence Award – Your Pagosa Weather Team!!!

Your Pagosa Weather Team was recognized on a national level by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Weather Service (NWS) with the Weather Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassadors of Excellence Award. We were chosen along with a select number of WRN Ambassador organizations throughout the nation that have made significant contributions to building a weather ready nation! We are humbled and proud that the National Weather Service felt strong enough about the change we are trying to affect in Archuleta County

The Grand Junction NWS office had these kind words to say about us in their nomination, “This small, but mighty, group of three has become a positive force multiplier for not only the National Weather Service, but for the citizens of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Archuleta County. They appreciate the National Weather Service and understand our core mission to protect property and save lives. They actively share our watch and warning information as well as safety messaging.”

CoCoRaHS

Welcome to Dara as a new CoCoRaHS weather observer in September!!! Huge thanks to Dara who will be adding data every day to the database and help hydrologists as they make key decisions during the drought. We now have additional vital data from Echo Canyon area.

Pagosa Weather is the “CoCoRaHS Coordinator” for Archuleta County and is also a “Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador”. Archuleta County is well represented but we still have big data gaps. We really need a volunteer in Arboles, west on Highway 160, Pagosa Junction, and the upper Blanco. Sign up by filling out this web page: https://www.cocorahs.org/application.aspx. Or send us a note and we can send you more detailed information.

Pagosa Weather is conducting the First Annual Pot Luck/Snow Measuring Seminar for the CoCoRaHS observers this weekend. We will try to have another seminar in November. We just need to secure a venue.

We had 11.6″ in the summer of 2013. 2014 was close with 9.18″.

I grew up in Montana where my love of mountains is rooted. I was in the Air Force for 24 years; Weather Observer to Weather Forecaster to Staff Weather Officer all to ensure flight safety. Mission was to brief aircrews on clouds, winds, turbulence, icing, thunderstorms. I served a total of 8 assignments and 4 deployments around the world. After RV traveling full time for 9 years, we found paradise in Pagosa. Here we enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing in spectacular mountains! Plus, we're trying to solve the San Juan weather puzzle! I am an AMS member.
