One of our primary goals at Pagosa Weather is to be helpful to the weather and local communities. To help with that goal, Pagosa Weather is the “CoCoRaHS Coordinator” for Archuleta County and is also a “Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador”.
CoCoRaHS Coordinator…

CoCoRaHS volunteers provide valuable rain, hail, and snow data. Because CoCoRaHS reports are considered “official”, there is some training and standard equipment is also used.
Volunteers take precip measurements roughly the same time every day, usually between 7am and 9am, and then send their reports with their on-line CoCoRaHS account or the CoCoRaHS app on their phone.
The goal is to send a report every day, but that’s a lofty goal. The program understands that people will be away from their homes and that other circumstances may hinder reports. We’ll take whatever data we can get!
Our primary responsibilities as coordinators are:
- Provide volunteers support
- Help with training
- Recruit new volunteers

Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador…

WRN Ambassadors serve a pivotal role in helping to build a nation that is ready, responsive, and resilient to the impacts of extreme weather and water events.
Our primary responsibilities are:
- Promoting Weather-Ready Nation messages and themes
- Engaging with NOAA personnel on potential collaboration opportunities
- Sharing success stories of preparedness and resiliency
- Serving as an example by educating employees on workplace preparedness
We will share more severe weather awareness posts. We’ll also continue to stress seasonal preparedness in our public presentations and our seasonal outlooks. We will also continue to act as a liaison with local agencies, the National Weather Service, and NOAA.
